An ostomy refers to the surgically created opening (stoma) in the body for the discharge of body wastes.
The most common types of ostomies are:
Colostomy: Created when a portion of the colon or the rectum is removed and the remaining colon is brought to the abdominal wall.
Ileostomy: Surgically created opening in the small intestine, usually at the end of the ileum.
Urostomy: Diverts urine away from a diseased or defective bladder.
Specialized ostomy care begins before the surgery and continues throughout the postoperative and rehabilitative period and for as long as the patient has an ostomy.
ConvaCare Clinics not only treat peristomal skin issues, but also help patients living with an ostomy prevent peristomal skin issues by providing helpful skin care tips and ostomy product suggestion.
